News from the publishers for whom we hold UK distribution rights

Cantiones Press – founded by Alistair Dixon are scholarly publishers of new editions of the Latin music of Thomas Tallis and his continental contemporaries, closely associated with the Chapelle du Roi chamber choir and Signum records.

Their most important recent issues comprise Robert White’s 6-part Lamentations.  While earlier than the better-known 5-part setting, they have a rugged individuality to them, not unlike the relationship between the Byrd and Tallis Lamentations. We have also recently issued White’s fourth setting of Christe qui lux es et dies.

Our Cathedral Choirs in particular are showing an increasing liturgical interest in Latin settings of Magnificat. Now available are settings by Guerrero (Tone IV) and the four-part setting by Tallis.  The Guerrero is available either for SATB or Men’s Voices, while the Tallis is for SSAT.

Further information about the Cantiones Press may be had from its website www.cantiones.co.uk

Oxenford Imprint – founded by Professor David Wulstan and associated with his choir the Clerkes of Oxenford.  A highlight of the catalogue comprises Complete Edition volumes of the Latin works of John Sheppard.

The Oxenford Imprint has ceased issuing new material, but we have recently brought together John Sheppard’s two settings of Libera nos, salva nos into one copy – cheaper and more convenient thus.

Paraclete Press – this distinguished American publishing house has made us its sole agents for the UK and EU.  Their lists include many works by British composers such as George Guest, Francis Jackson and Robin Orr as well as European and American composers.

We are pleased to report that all Paraclete’s titles are now available from us.  While several English composers are represented there, including cathedral organists such as Malcolm Boyle, George Guest, David Halls, Donald Hunt, Francis Jackson and Robin Orr, this Catalogue primarily represents an invaluable introduction to the world of American church music. This is largely a closed book to British cathedral musicians (just as American music in general seems to be!), but there are many riches awaiting discovery, and we hope that in years to come the names of composers such as Gerre Hancock, Robert Lind, Joel Martinson, Gerald Near, Bruce Neswick and Alec Wyton will become as well know over here as they are in American cathedrals.

We have copies available of Paraclete’s 2009 Catalogue – more recent issues appear on their website – www.paracletepress.com.  In our Catalogue we at present list all their publications by UK composers, to which we are adding any of their publications by US composers that are attracting interest over here – a rapidly growing list!
